Coordination of your body correctly in the water allows you to float, swim, move, reorientate, and so much more.

All of the strokes requires coordination as well as specialised movements (diving, tumble-turning, treading water, sculling, log rolling, push and gliding). Just being in the water practicing these movemnets enables progression of coordination.

Competent Swimming is suitable for any child above the age of four and any adult regardless of their age.
It depends on how much effort you put in to each Competent Swimming lesson and if you practice what you have learnt outside of Competent Swimming. However many people who take lessons learn how to swim with foundational technique after 5 weekly lessons.
Absolutely. Tell your teacher you would like to learn a specific stroke or skill (i.e. Treading Water) and they will run through specific exercises to help you learn this.
If you can't swim on your front with foundational technique your instructor will be in the pool with you. This is to keep you safe and give you more confidence to push you beyond your comfort zone.
All of the details such as what you will need to bring, parking, what you will learn will be explained in your introductory information pack. However; swimming suit, goggles, water bottle and a towel.
